Adult Size: 1.5–1.8 cm

Description:
A selectively bred morph of the classic Zebra isopod, the Yellow Zebra replaces standard white striping with vibrant yellow bands. Hardy, beginner-friendly, and visually striking, this species is ideal for display enclosures and semi-arid bioactive setups.
Appearance & Behaviour:
- Bold yellow and black banded pattern
- Smooth, domed exoskeleton
- Ability to conglobate (roll into a tight ball) for defense
- Peaceful, non-aggressive, moderately active once settled
- Juveniles show yellow pattern from birth; color intensifies with maturity
Habitat & Care:
- Enclosure: Well-ventilated container (10–15 L for starters), cross-ventilation recommended
- Substrate: Organic topsoil + sphagnum peat moss + leaf litter + decaying hardwood + optional sand for drainage
- Moisture: Provide a moisture gradient with a damp corner for hydration and molting; rest of enclosure drier
- Temperature: 20–26 °C, tolerates slight variation
- Humidity: 50–70 %, avoid consistently high humidity
- Décor & Hides: Cork bark, flat stones, hardwood bark, leaf litter, sphagnum moss
Diet & Nutrition:
- Detritivore; eats dried leaf litter, decaying wood, cork bark
- Supplementary foods: Fresh vegetables (carrot, courgette, sweet potato), occasional fruit, fish flakes
- Calcium: Cuttlebone, crushed eggshells, limestone, or calcium powder for healthy moulting
Breeding:
- Females carry eggs in a marsupium, release fully formed juveniles
- Moderate brood sizes, steady growth under proper conditions
- To maintain Yellow morph: breed yellow individuals together
Bioactive Use & Suitability:
- Excellent for semi-arid or Mediterranean-style setups
- Acts as a cleanup crew for decaying plant matter
- Good choice for beginners wanting visible, active, and colorful isopods
- Not ideal for high-humidity tropical setups
Care Level: Low difficulty; forgiving, hardy, and visually appealing without exotic care requirements
